$6,000 MAY MATCHING GIFT UPDATE:

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the Doylestown Dog Park! We are so grateful to all of you! We hope to update the supporter page in the next couple of weeks. So far this month, we have raised about $4,000 toward our $6,000 goal! We sold 25 bricks, 2 Pavers and a Tree this month! We’ll keep you posted on the final tally as additional gifts hopefully come in so we can pay our construction bills and keep building our park! We also have lots of Tree naming opportunities available for a $400 donation if anyone is interested

***UPDATE 5/2/12 at 10pm: Unfortunately a theft has occurred at the dog park site. We are missing several pieces of black fence rail and two rolls of black chain link fencing totally about $700.
We ask all of our supporters who were driving near Turk III and the dog park construction site over the past weekend to think back if they saw anything going on at the dog park.

Fortunately, the police will increase their patrolling the area to look for anything suspicious and we have secured the remaining materials so it can’t be stolen.

We are so excited to see our park under construction!  As you know, our park is entirely funded through private donations and not through taxes, and it can’t be completed without additional funds.  Due to added costs we could not foresee and were beyond our control we need an additional $5,000 to just finish the park. As part of registration, everyone who is registered for the dog park will need to attend a FREE dog park class to learn about dog park rules and etiquette. Fundraiser! Morning Down Dogs for Doggies & Horses on Friday, April 13th: Calling all early birds! This is a great way to start your day- helping animals and yourself!

Dragonfly Yoga Studio is offering a donation class from 6:30 to 7:30 AM on Friday, April 13th taught by horse and dog lover, Valerie Shoulberg, to benefit the construction of Doylestown Dog Park, and Last Chance Ranch’s ‘s lifesaving work for animals in need in our community. Valerie teaches at 6:30 am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning.

We are also HONORED to have been invited to present at the 2012 SoMeBizLife conference on May 30th at Del Val College. We were so touched to get this message from social media guru, Chuck Hall “We actually were wondering if you would be able to do a stand alone session to talk about the things you have done to engage the community while working on the Dog Park. We think you have done a phenomenal job of using Facebook and twitter, holding events, engaging donors, raising general awareness in the community, working with the Township and Borough, and connecting with the media. I hope you are able to do this, because frankly, we think yours is the best community engagement story we’ve seen in the area in the last year!” WOW! That made us feel good! So we’ll keep you posted when our session is if you would like to come and will try to make it as interesting as possible!

We are working diligently with the Township Parks and Rec to get the registration going and as you can imagine, it’s a huge task! We appreciate your patience and hope to have answers to all of your questions soon. We are working with local vets and other dog parks to determine what vaccinations etc are needed. We know all dogs will need rabies shots and proof of their dog license. Doylestown Dog Park Ground Breaking Ceremony on March 16, 2012 at 5pm

DOYLESTOWN, Pennsylvania – The Friends of the Doylestown Dog Park, announced that it will break ground on the Doylestown Dog Park this week. FDDP invites the media, all local supporters, Township, Borough and County officials to attend a Ground Breaking Ceremony with their well behaved, leashed dogs on Friday, March 16^th at 5pm at the dog park construction site at Doylestown Township’s Turk III Park, near Turk and Almshouse Roads. This will be the only time dogs will be encouraged to dig at the park! We’ll meet at the Turk III parking lot and then head down to the site for remarks and a photo.

FDDP has been working with Doylestown Borough and Township to develop the 3- acre off-leash area.  FDDP anticipates the opening of the park by early summer. This is truly a community endeavor. We are so grateful for the community’s support through in-kind services, and monetary donations as well as the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. As with many construction projects, unexpected changes and additional costs have occurred.  We are continuing to accept donations for this project and have some incredible naming opportunities available.

The Doylestown Dog Park relies on private donations, and there are many opportunities to contribute. Businesses as well as families and individuals can become Doylestown Dog Park “Partners” with giving levels ranging from $1,500 to $25,000 as well as purchasing an engraved brick for $100 or a paver for $500.  There are also opportunities for donations of in-kind services such as landscape services, plant material, stone, and gravel. The public is welcome to participate in the ground breaking ceremony and join upcoming planning meetings on April 4 and May 2 at 7 pm at Doylestown Borough Hall.

Monday, March 12 at 8am we are meeting at Turk 3 Park to install silt fencing for soil erosion control. Please bring a sledgehammer if you have one. Please don’t bring your dogs because you’ll have your hands full with the fence. Thanks to all who come volunteer! Friday, March 16 at 5pm join us at Turk 3 again. To culminate this wonderful moment, we hope you and your well behaved, leashed dogs will join us for a ceremonial ground breaking photo! Construction all depends on weather and we are hoping that there won’t be too much rain so it doesn’t get all muddy. We are expecting to open around Memorial Day (give or take depending on how weather and construction goes). In the meantime, Doylestown Township Parks & Rec Department will be launching the registration process along with our volunteers soon so everyone can get registered before the park opens.

As you can imagine, unexpected costs have come up so if you are considering purchasing a Brick, Paver, or naming opportunity, now is the time! For instance, in order to get our permits some design changes were needed, such as trenching the fence down 18 inches instead of 12 inches so now we have to buy a lot more rocks. The trenching is important because it will allow rainwater to run off and away from the dog park so it doesn’t get as soggy.
